A hunger strike against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is continuing in Chennai. Protesters have restated their demand for the examination to be dispensed with in medical admissions.

The demand is that of the protesters. It is separate from the government''s stated position and from the legal framework that currently governs medical admission, under which NEET remains the qualifying examination.

The protest coincides with the release of Tamil Nadu''s medical admission ranks and the start of counselling, a period in which the distributional consequences of a single national examination are most visible to candidates and families.
