Syria says it has reached an agreement with Russia over the future of the Hmeimim air base and Tartus naval base.

Under the reported arrangement, the military facilities are to be transformed into joint training and capacity-building centres.

Civilian facilities associated with the bases are expected to be transferred to Syrian control.

A three-month timeframe has reportedly been set for implementation.

The agreement could reshape Russia’s military footprint in Syria while preserving a defence relationship between the two countries.
