What Happened
A 37-year-old contract worker, Bhoominathan of Tiruvannamalai district, died after a pit roughly 10 feet deep caved in during underground sewage work at Thiruvottiyur in north Chennai. Three other workers were reportedly inside the pit at the time and escaped.
The Case
Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under provisions of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, against persons associated with the contracting firm.
