New curriculum from 2027-28

Tamil Nadu will introduce TN-ARIVU from the 2027-28 academic year in three stages for Classes 1-5, 6-8 and 9-12. The programme is intended to build analytical thinking, reasoning, innovation, entrepreneurship and familiarity with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Daily sport and a monthly no-bag day

Government-school students are to receive physical education periods every day rather than once a week. The state plans to fill 2,771 physical-education teacher posts, including 1,328 newly created positions, and develop 50 schools as Sports Plus schools.

A monthly No-Bag Day will focus on arts, fine arts and other non-textbook activities.

Learning gaps and mental health

A three-tier counselling system will be introduced in government high and higher secondary schools with 943 trained counsellors and five tele-counsellors. Other programmes will target learning gaps, adaptive learning, critical thinking, entrepreneurship and digital skills across different class groups.
