How the scheme will work
Tamil Nadu will provide the value of three domestic LPG cylinders a year to eligible households from Pongal 2027. Beneficiaries will buy the cylinder and the amount will then be credited to the designated bank account, with the woman head of the household as the default recipient.
Who is expected to qualify
The announced framework covers households with annual income up to ₹2.5 lakh and also includes specified vulnerable groups, small and marginal farmers and persons with disabilities. Around 1.3 crore families are expected to be covered.
Fiscal cost
The state estimates an annual expenditure of roughly ₹4,000 crore. Detailed operational rules — including treatment of households without a woman head and coordination with existing LPG subsidies — are expected through implementation guidelines.
