The proposal
Greater Chennai Corporation has prepared a ₹1,000-crore urban-improvement proposal covering three beaches and four major lakes or water bodies, according to Dinamani. The beach component focuses on Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and Palavakkam, including infrastructure intended to support Blue Flag standards.
How it would be funded
The commissioner told the paper that the Union and Tamil Nadu governments are expected to contribute 25% each, while the corporation would finance the remaining 50%, including through institutional borrowing where required.
What comes next
The ₹1,000-crore package is described as the first phase. The civic body is also preparing proposals for a further ₹3,000 crore of urban projects.
