AI for intelligence fusion

The Union Home Ministry has called for wider use of artificial intelligence to analyse intelligence inputs and improve responses to emerging security threats. Agencies have been asked to develop standard operating procedures based on AI-assisted analysis of information available through the Multi Agency Centre platform.

Integrated security agenda

The discussions covered counter-terrorism, radicalisation, narcotics, illegal migration, cybercrime and cross-border proxy threats. The government also emphasised faster trials and stronger coordination across security and intelligence agencies.

The governance challenge

AI can help identify patterns across large volumes of intelligence data, but operational use will also require clear accountability, human validation and safeguards against false positives. The effectiveness of the push will depend on how those controls are built into the proposed procedures.
