A family’s decision after brain death
A one-year-seven-month-old boy has become Tamil Nadu’s youngest deceased organ donor after his parents consented to donation following brain death.
The child had been receiving intensive treatment for hydrocephalus. After irreversible brain damage was confirmed, the family agreed to donate his organs.
Three recipients
Both kidneys were transplanted into a young adult recipient in Chennai. The liver was donated to a toddler in Chennai and the heart was transported to Coimbatore for another toddler.
Hospital authorities said the previous youngest deceased donor in the state was one year and eight months old.
