State told to use the authority mechanism

The Supreme Court has told Tamil Nadu that its grievance over the proportionate release of Cauvery water can be raised before the Cauvery Water Management Authority.

Tamil Nadu argued that it had not received the share due to it. The court noted that release figures had already been placed before it and asked the parties to return with an updated status after the authority process.

Fresh committee recommendation

The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has recommended a release of 9,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days. The management authority is scheduled to consider the position and decide the final direction on the quantum of release.

The next stage therefore moves back to the statutory river-management mechanism, with the Supreme Court keeping the matter pending.
